SECURITY ADVISOR > TIJUANA
General Information:
Tijuana on occasion can be dangerous after dusk in certain areas. Near the Zona Roja intoxicated people can be jumped, mugged or robbed as they pass through this area on the way to and from night time entertaiment establishments. In general, Tijuana is relatively safe during the day when the stores are open and many tourists are present. It's still a good idea when you visit Tijuana to stay away from the secluded alleys and un-traveled areas. When you venture to Tijuana's back roads I recommend you walk in the street next to the cars out of the way of traffic. Most of the time when a mugging takes place you are jumped from behind and dragged into an alley or secluded passage ways next to the sidewalk. So keep an eye out behind you and stick to the streets. The mugging I personally witnessed was done by a well orchestrated gang of nicely dressed young clean cut teenagers who after removing all valuables from their Mexican victim and leaving him on the sidewalk, quietly walked off mingling in with the many passing pedistrians. They were very professional and obviously well trained. Don't expect the local police to help you, even though they are trying to improve their services they still struggele to overcome a long history of corruption.

As a border city, Tijuana has a strategic geographical location: the strengthening and consolidation of commercial activities between the countries of North America place Tijuana as one of the urban areas of major economic and population growth of the last decades.
Provides service mainly to the city of Tijuana , as well as the municipalities of Ensenada , Tecate and Rosarito,. Located 10 minutes from the metropolitan area of Tijuana , the main access way to the airport is Avenida Díaz Ordaz, that runs parallel with the border, and connects the airport with the border crossing gate of Mesa Otay towards San Diego , California .
Tijuana International airport is basically metropolitan. It occupies the fifth place within the country as regards to passenger transportation (3.4 million passengers in 2004), with a growth of 7.1% in the last 10 years and with a projected aerial traffic growth of 5.5% for the next 15 years.
